WoodRanch BBQ Classic Burger- CALIFORNIA

Tonight I had dinner w/ Mrs. Chicken Fried and Baby Chicken Fried at Wood Ranch BBQ. This is a chain of restaurants in California that specializes in BBQ. Well it's been a while since I wrote about burgers so I decided to try their Classic Burger which as described by their menu is: " Certified Angus Beef ground chuck grilled over live hardwood fire. Topped with lettuce, pickles, tomato, caramelized onions and served on a sesame seed bun."
So compared to my earlier review of another Angus Burger (McDonald's Angus 1/3 Pounder), how did this burger fare? I can tell you that this burger is probably one of the better burgers I have had. It is lightyears away from anything a fast food chain will ever serve. The burger patty tasted like steak that had been ground. It had a subtle smokey flavor and smell to it that comes from actually being cooked over fire. I ordered it medium rare and it was juicy and flavorful. The condiments on the burger did not overshadow the burger taste, but really added to the flavor. The onions were caramelized and provided a sweet counterpoint to the burger. The lettuce was neutral and just added additional juiciness to the burger. This was an example of a burger done right. There was no sauce at all, and I'm not sure whether sauce would add or detract from this burger. For those of you who want an honest burger with no frills, that more closely resembles the flavoring of steak, this is the burger for you.
